Welcome to our new look website-part of our new site is to have a 'vintage pattern of the month' which changes each month and features a pdf downloadable pattern that we have reduced to just 50p in price!
This month -October 2014- we have chosen a lovely autumnal fair isle knitting pattern which dates from the early 1950s- the original has such lovely colours but of course you can choose your own range of colours for the patterning. Fair isle designs were very popular in the late 1920s to the 1950s- at first this was because the heir to the throne in the late 1920s was a very dapper chap and started wearing the lovely multicoloured jumpers and was photographed in them...
Later in the 1940s they gained in popularity during the war years and after as small amounts of left over yarns could be used to make them which was very useful during those long years of rationing- yes- even wool, yarn and fabric were rationed as well as clothes and so knitters had to be inventive in how they made clothes for the family- we will blog more about that in later posts about 'make do and mend' so do keep an eye open for those...
You can find the pattern by clicking here - we would love to see any photos of lovely colour combinations used by you for this pattern so do let us know and send us pics! fair isle knitting is a delight to do as the evening start getting longer- the changes in colour keep your interest as you are knitting and they make wonderful festive presents.....Enjoy, and Happy Making!
