How will I know what size modern needles or hooks to use?

Each pattern includes an appendix with charts which show the equivalent modern size needles and hooks for vintage sizes

I am a USA user- how do I read the UK crochet patterns?

Each crochet pattern will state whether it uses UK or USA terminology. Each pattern also includes a chart which shows the equivalent stitches for UK crochet terminology, USA terminology and symbols. Its quite simple once you get used to it- basically a UK dc is a USA single crochet, and a UK treble is a USA Double crochet and so on.

Vintage Patterns often use old yarns- how will I know what yarns to use?

We include a chart to make it easier for you to understand the modern equivalent yarns. We also have a supply of luxurious modern yarns, which are finer than DK and which will be suitable for some of the patterns. If you are using shop bought yarns always use the needle or hook size used as your clue as modern ball bands will tell you which needle/hook they recommend

I have lots of odds and ends of left over yarns- can I use them on your patterns?

Many of the patterns written in the 1940s were especially written for small amounts of wool as wool was rationed and in short supply. Multicoloured Fair Isle designs were especially popular at this time. Try also the throw and afgan patterns which you can make in different coloured squares, and all hats use a small amount of yarn and can also be made in stripes of colour or texture.
